Seconds count at Cavendish Press

Seconds count when it comes to finishing jobs at Cavendish Press in Whetstone, Leicestershire, which is why they have recently installed an MB CAS 38 folder to handle all their small format work. The folder with pre-loader, which was installed by Encore Machinery, replaces a six year old MB, which had done 70 million folds.

"We have three other larger format folders but the MB is ideal for folding A4 down to DL. Its automated settings make it exceptionally quick and easy to set up. It's fast, it's accurate and the fold quality is excellent. It's also a very flexible machine because it folds a wide range of pamphlets and leaflets, anything from 500 to a quarter of a million. In five minutes we can have it running at speeds up to 23,000 an hour whereas it would take 45 minutes to set it up on one of the larger machines and then it would run at about 10-15,000 an hour. If we put a 100,000 run on the MB, one operator can do the whole job in a shift. On a larger folder, the same job would probably go across two shifts," said Scott Stevenson, Finishing Manager.

"The new machine has the latest computerised technology. We can now change the settings without having to stop the machine, which is an added bonus. Encore were able to install the new folder in less than two weeks from placing my order. They've given us brilliant service and nothing is too much trouble for them."
